Getting Cheap Treadmills For Sale

A treadmill is perhaps the most effective home Cardio exercise equipment that you can get. A brand new machine, suitable for light exercise, may cost you up to $1,000. However, you should not be discouraged from looking for a used machine that you can afford. Simply look for cheap treadmills for sale, and you can enjoy your daily workout from the comfort of your home. Here is a guideline that you can use to select a treadmill for your home-use.

Ensure that the machine is in good working order

A used treadmill will have been subjected to some degree of wear and tear. Make sure you have a machine in good working order by:

• Inspecting the motor of the treadmill - The motor is the heart of the machine, and you need to make sure that it will give you service for a reasonable length of time, before it needs any major repairs. Give the machine a test-run, and listen carefully to the sounds emanating from the motor. A motor should run smoothly, with no screeching noises. If any untoward sounds are coming from the machine, then you should not buy it.

• Inspect the belt of the treadmill - This is the running surface on which you shall perform your exercises. You need to make sure that it will not break when you are in the middle of an exercise. Make sure that it is wide enough to accommodate your size. It should also have a stride length that will afford you comfort when you are exercising at a running pace.

• Ask about the weight limit - Treadmills are graded for particular weights. There are those that cannot support heavy weights and will break down quickly if the limit is exceeded.

• Consider the incline of the treadmill - A treadmill that has an adjustable incline, will allow you to vary the exercises that you perform, for better results.

Where to get cheap treadmills for sale

The best place to begin your search for such a treadmill is the Internet. Most people use online auction sites to sell products that they have already used. Visit exercise equipment suppliers and distributors, and see if they have any clearance sales of this equipment. Your local gymnasium may also be selling some of their old equipment, though you should be careful, since this equipment will have been subjected to more use, than that sold by individual owners.

Warranty and repair issues

When you are buying cheap treadmills for sale, you can expect them to have a shorter useful life, compared to a brand new model. If you are buying the machine from a gym, or hotel, you can expect it to have a greater share of wear and tear, as opposed to that used for private home use. Ask about any warranty, or repair arrangement that you can get from the seller. If you are buying the machine from your local dealership, they should automatically issue a warranty against fair-use damage. Treadmills are expensive to repair, so ask for a warranty lest you end up paying more than you would have, if you had bought a brand new machine.

Down But Not Out!

Dennis is distraught. Two weeks ago, the family-run firm for which he had worked for the best part of forty years had to tell him, very reluctantly, that his job was redundant. To be fair, they made it clear that they hated to see him go. Dennis had served his apprenticeship there, fresh out of school, had been a loyal and hardworking employee and was extremely well thought of by his colleagues but the business had taken a down-turn and there was no alternative but to make cuts. Dennis understands all of this, but the facts remain; at the age of just 55, he feels cast aside, unwanted, washed-up and useless.

Dennis isn't ready for the pipe and slippers routine just yet. Fearing he'll be condemned to spend the rest of his days as a couch potato, growing fatter by the day watching breakfast TV, he's looking around the house constantly for jobs to do but, really, is achieving little more than getting under Hazel's feet.

Hazel doesn't know what to do about Dennis. She hates to see him so tense and down at heart. She tries her best to reassure him that this is just a temporary setback and that all will be well again, but Dennis is far from convinced. Hazel knows that Dennis needs to unwind and relax. As she ponders, a thought comes to her... of course! A little while later, she has the answer. 'Come on', she says to Dennis as she prises the vacuum cleaner from his hands. 'Get your case packed. We're going away for the weekend!'

The following morning, they're making their way to a Grade II listed historic stately home set in 45 acres of beautiful landscaped grounds in the most peaceful surroundings at the gateway of the Yorkshire Dales, just a couple of miles outside Harrogate. As they make their approach to the graceful and imposing baronial-style mansion, they're struck immediately by an air of serenity and tranquillity. Already, the trials and tribulations of the last couple of weeks seem a world away. They are given the warmest of welcomes at reception by a very friendly lady who tells them proudly that parts of the house date back to the 14th Century, and that this was where King Edward VIII was said to have first met Mrs Wallis Simpson. Dennis is fascinated; he loves history, and this hotel is just steeped in it.

Being shown to their room, as they ascend the sweeping staircase with its stunning carvings and cornices, Dennis and Hazel are amazed how all the character of a bygone age has been so lovingly preserved. Their room is breathtaking; very spacious, beautifully and tastefully decorated and well appointed with en-suite bathroom (complete with complimentary bathrobes and luxury toiletries), tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen TV with radio, direct dial telephone, DVD/CD player, decadently oversized four poster king bed and mini bar. There's even a separate lounge area and the view from the window of the grounds and parkland is truly spectacular. To make them feel right at home, a bottle of wine, fresh fruit and a box of chocolates have been placed on the dressing table. It seems that the proprietors will go to any lengths to ensure that their stay at this fabulous hotel is an unforgettable experience.

After taking just a few minutes to unpack, Dennis and Hazel head for one of the hotel's bars comfortable bars, to partake of a hearty ploughman's lunch and a glass of chilled beer. Arm in arm, fortified by their meal, they take a leisurely stroll around the intricate network of paths that wind around the extensive gardens, stopping to look at the boats on a blue lake which sparkles and shimmers like a million diamonds in the summer sun.

Back at the hotel, it's time to prepare for the evening. Recharged by an invigorating shower, the two set off to the elegant oak panelled restaurant, which used to be the billiard room in Victorian times. Their traditional British meal is a real treat; delicious and perfectly presented, served by friendly and attentive but unobtrusive staff. Enjoying the convivial atmosphere in the bar later, Dennis and Hazel plan their evening's entertainment. It seems the hotel has a lively cabaret room and tonight a jazz band will be performing, followed by a stand-up comedian and a disco. That should be perfect ' other than the disco, maybe...

Dennis and Hazel are thoroughly entertained by the cabaret and to their surprise, find themselves dancing into the early hours of the morning. It's been many a year since they've done that and as they climb the stairs to bed, they agree that it's been a lot of fun.

In the morning, Dennis and Hazel find that the fresh Yorkshire is great for working up an appetite. Hazel decides on a continental breakfast and Dennis opts for the full English. As they eat, they strike up an immediate rapport with the couple at the next table, Cyril and Audrey who, it turns out, live just a few miles away from Dennis and Hazel. After breakfast, it's time to enjoy some of the many other facilities the hotel has to offer. Dennis and Cyril stride off together for a round of golf, whilst Hazel and Audrey have a revitalising swim in the splendid, heated indoor pool, followed by a rejuvenating sauna.

Later, as they put their cases in the car, Hazel notices something about Dennis. No more furrowed brow, he seems happy and relaxed, just like his old self. As they travel back home, Dennis tells Hazel what a stroke of luck it was to have met Cyril. As well as being a really good chap, he owns his own building firm, is crying out for qualified and experienced electricians and is certain that he can offer Dennis a good job. Well, it seems that every cloud has a silver lining...

San Antonio, Florida

According to William G. Dayton, who wrote a brief history of the area, San Antonio was first settled post-1845 by Judge Edmond Dunne who, hurt by the anti-catholic sentiment endemic to the times, envisioned the land as a "Catholic Colony, a settlement dominated by Roman Catholics and a center of Catholic civilization in Florida." He named his carefully laid out town, which included schools, a monastery, a convent and a home for orphans, San Antonio in honor of St. Anthony of Padua. When the rail came through in 1887, many new settlers arrived, and with them, new ways of life. In 1926, in an effort to modernize, the town was renamed "The City of Lake Jovitall," its borders were greatly extended, and Dunne's obviously Catholic street names were changed: Sacred Heart Street became Rhode Island Avenue; Pius X Avenue became Curley Street. After the Great Depression though, the borders were redrawn to their original standards and the city was again renamed San Antonio. The streets however, kept their "modernized" names.

Shopping and Dining in San Antonio

Until the promised Pasco Town Center arrives, residents of San Antonio take a quick jaunt to Dade City, just minutes away, for most shopping and dining requirements. Since Dade City is home to a mall and all the chain restaurants and big box retail outlets, and since Tampa is just 30 minutes away by the Interstate, San Antonio residents still have plenty of options.
Locals, however, do rave about Pancho Villa's Mexican restaurant on Curley Road, word has it that the place is packed at dinnertime, and that the food is authentically authentic and muchas delicious! Another local favorite is Al's Famous Pizza, also on Curley.

Leisure and Play in San Antonio

Rural doesn't mean boring! Quite the contrary: there's plenty to do in and around San Antonio. The annual San Antonio Rattlesnake Festival is the area's top attraction; held the 3rd Saturday in October since 1967, the Festival offers, naturally, snake shows, gopher races, food, entertainment, arts and crafts, pageants and lots more. Another popular attraction is Pioneer Days, held at the nearby Dade City Pioneer Florida Museum and Village. The museum started back in 1961 when a prominent San Antonio resident gifted 37 vehicles and tools of yesteryear to the Pasco County Fair Association. Since then, the Museum also houses the restored Overstreet House, a one-room school house from Lacoochee, a church from Enterprise, a rail depot and a train engine.
The Museum is also host of the popular County Christmas each December, which features cane grinding, syrup making, garden tractor pulls, live entertainment and a decked-out holiday décor. In February the Museum hosts its annual Farm Festival and Quilt Show, featuring the draft horse pulling competition, traveling quilt collections, quilts and quilt supplies, quilt appraisals and the People's Choice Quilt Award.

Another San Antonio treasure is the old Train Depot, the last remaining depot on the Orange Belt Railway. The Depot today serves as a community building for parties and events, and houses a museum with authentic railroad memorabilia including a rare, restored caboose.

Where's Home?

If you live in one place, and have always lived in that place, then your answer to the question, "Where's home?" may simply be your street address, city, and state.

It's where you keep your stuff, wake up, eat, spend leisure time or work, perhaps raise your family, entertain friends, and sleep.

While every place -- house, street, town, neighbors -- changes over time, there's a singular rootedness that attaches to opening and closing the same front door day after day, year after year.

If you ask that question of your clients, however, you may discover a more complex reality. While they may be asking you to design or remodel their primary residence, it's just as likely that the house you're about to create for them reflects an expansion or shift in their idea of home. Kids off to college, downsizing, upsizing, corporate relocation, climate change, disabled, working at home, etc. Regardless of the reasons, if they're like most Americans, where home is will change every five years.

A person might live in one house all year round, moving every few years as life warrants. Or he/she may maintain multiple residences, relocating seasonally. Another version of this scenario is home exchange: owning one house, but swapping it with another homeowner for the privilege of living in his/her house for an extended, temporary period of time.

Over the past few years, as I've split my year among three locations, I've often been asked "Where's home?" I could pick one place, or I could say each of them is home, depending on where I'm living at the time. Pondering the question, however, I find it's more complex than that.

Because, first I'd have to ask, "What do you mean by 'home'?"

Is home the place where I was raised? Where my family and old friends live?

Is home the place where I spend the most time?

Is home the place where I have clothes, a studio setup, familiar haunts and habits? If I have more than one place with those things, which one is home?

Is home the place I find most beautiful? Most stimulating? Most challenging? Most relaxing?

Is home a place I've never lived but have dreamed of living?

Is home a place I've not yet seen, but yearn to discover?

Is home where I lived during certain key experiences of my life?

Is home a place or a time? Is it both?

Is home a place where I "live" while I'm traveling from one home to another? Familar airport, train station, airplane route, train line?

Is home the place where I want to be buried?

Even if I can arrive at a specific answer to the question, "Where's home?", does the answer stay the same? Or does it change, depending on the moment in my life when I'm asked?

The question came up recently when I was considering various home refinance options. Every mortgage broker wanted to know how long I was planning to live in my house.

On the one hand, knowing that the average American moves every five years, I shouldn't worry about paying off the mortgage, since I'll probably sell the house way before I pay off a 30-year mortgage. An adjustable rate mortgage with an interest-only payment would free up monthly cash to pay off other things or invest in additional real estate.

On the other hand, this house suits us just fine, and it's possible we'll want to stay here for at least 10 years, maybe more. In which case, we might want to get a longer term, fixed mortgage, and try to pay down the principal.

Truth is, I have no idea how long we'll live in this house. I can't predict what circumstances life will bring.. We love living in this area, but is this "home?" Not necessarily. It's pleasant, and it's an appreciating asset. It's where we work all day and sleep at night, but I don't know that I'd call it home. We've lived in other beautiful and interesting places, too. Which one is truly "home"?

If home is the place one goes to for comfort, I sometimes think it's virtual, consisting of my memories of when and where I felt most myself, most alive, most full of promise . . . memories of good times that were never wholly that good, but that I find myself yearning for nevertheless. It's true that "you can't go home again" to the actual geographic place and find it to be the same as you remember; but you can go home again to your memories of it.

This week I attended a real estate seminar. The moderator asked each of us where we came from, where we had called home before moving here. I said "three different states", since I spent each season in a different location. The couple next to me said, "the cab of our moving truck," since they'd put all their possessions into storage and spent the previous four years driving around the country transporting other people's possessions from home to home. Someone else said, "our house in Ohio for the past 25 years." I'd venture to guess that each of you would answer the question differently, when asked, "Where's home?"

This kind of thinking is new to a lot of people. When one-house owners contemplate doing what I do, I can see the wheels turning in their heads, as they imagine recreating a second or third home with the same quality levels of space, finishes, furnishings, mortgage, insurance, landscaping and maintenance that they have at their primary residence. Just as quickly as they imagine it, I can see them feeling overwhelmed and putting aside the fantasy for another day.

Their hesitation is not necessarily financial. It seems just as much an issue of logistics and emotional attachment to a familiar lifestyle and place.

What I explain to them, if they're truly intrigued, is that I long ago learned to limit my attachment to the daily experience of living in a particular place, rather than the physical scale and quality of my home. Yes, I make my living spaces as comfortable and accommodating as I can, but it's the special features and particular people in each geographical place that make spending the season there uniquely appealing to me.

For your clients, the answer to "where's home?" has a big impact on the often emotional decisions they face about the expensive, physical realities of design and construction. If it's "home," then maybe they go for the details that comfort them but may not add to the resale value. If it's a place they'll use, but won't be getting attached to, then builder-quality features can keep them within budget and free their resources for other needs.

With the big surge of Baby Boomers beginning their quest for the best way to structure the next phases of their lives, "Where's home?" will become the loaded question for the next decade. It will make your design practice interesting and very challenging, as you find yourself in the position of life-transition coach for clients who started out adulthood by saying, "Never trust anyone over 30," and now find themselves hurtling towards the far side of that idealistic divide.

How To Improve Lighting For a Tennis Court

Lighting plays an important part in running any sport facility successfully, especially the facilities like the tennis courts. The right amount of light ensures that the players are able to give their best in the game, and the spectators are also able to enjoy the game comfortably. Making some changes in the lighting fixtures can help in improving lighting solutions for tennis court.

We know that tennis is a game that is enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. The public tennis courts are accessible by all who have a ball and a tennis racquet. Many house owners like having these courts right in their backyard, and you can easily have one created based on your budget and requirement. Besides the various things and equipments that are important to create a tennis court, lighting requirements stand tall.

Tennis games often continue even after the sun has gone down, and this is when you require proper lighting to illuminate the sports facility. Also, there are some people who are so passionate about the game that they like playing tennis even before the sun comes out.

If you are considering a renovation work then you will first need to study the existing lighting fixtures in the tennis court and look for dark spots if any. You may also want to check for the glare, and determine whether or not the ball is visible clearly when it travels to the different corners of the tennis court. The process will help you understand the current lighting system and its drawbacks well.

To get a better understand of whether or not a tennis court requires a lighting renovation, we would recommend that you play some tennis after the sun sets and see how the lighting affects your game. You may want to make a note of any type of lighting fixture that causes blinding. You may circle the spots created on the court to see the level of lighting problem created.

After you have determined that you need to improve lighting for the tennis court, you may want to look for the different styles of tennis lighting available in the market. The arteso lighting are the high quality LED luminaries that work excellently to provide daylight kind of illumination in the court.

If you are thinking of designing a new lighting scheme for a tennis court then you may first want to consider whether it is a residential court or a commercial court, The residential ones usually make use of the low-mast lights that diminish the glare and distribute light evenly across the entire court, while preventing it to go farther from the sports area. You may also consider using light fixtures and bulbs that help in reducing the glare and spreading the light evenly on the court. You may take the help of a professional to understand which lighting system is good for your court and as per his advice you can choose the right system. Always install new lighting fixtures in the supervision of the experts so that they provide the right solution for all your tennis requirements.

Create Your Own Personal Mission Statement

It's a great way to provide a sense of purpose, focus and direction; most corporate entities have one and so should you!

The statement is intended to be a guide to living that can be referred to when difficult decisions need to be made. It will help align the intentions and decisions of the couple and also be a guiding beacon for the individual.

Many years ago a friend offered to give my three daughters a lift to school. I initially said yes, but later I realised that she did not have seat belts in the back of her car. I knew it was going to be difficult to tell the friend that I would not allow my girls to travel with her. But, that evening my wife and I looked at our mission statement and there on top was written "We will always put the health and safety of the girls first" It wasn't easy telling the friend, but it had to be done and I told her in full. That was unfortunately the end of the friendship, but the girl's safety came first.

A personal mission statement can do the same for an individual or a couple.

Creating a mission statement is quite simple. All you need to do is to write down a list of beliefs and intentions. Arrange them in order of priority, then sign at the bottom of the list. This will require a lot of interesting negotiations for a couple, but will be of terrific value for future decisions. Signing formalizes the statement and gives it the power it deserves. The statement should then be displayed in a private place, where only you will see it. The statement is a dynamic guide and can be changed at any time to suit circumstances.

Here is an example of a personal mission statement for an individual. Keep in mind that your mission statement can be as long or short as you need it to be, within reason.

I shall always put my health and safety first.

I will take responsibility for my actions.

I believe in treating others with the same respect that I myself deserve.

I want to build healthy relationships with others.

I will grow stronger with each accomplishment, and even stronger with each setback.

I believe everything happens for a reason, and there is no better place to be than right here, right now.

I will not blame others. I believe in a higher power, and I will let that higher power guide me whenever possible.

Here is an example of a personal mission statement for a couple.

We will always put the children's health and safety first.

We will do what is necessary to stay fit and healthy.

We will stay within our budget.

We shall live each day to the fullest.

We will treat others with the respect.

We will build healthy relationships with others.

We will grow stronger with each accomplishment, and even stronger with each setback.

We believe everything happens for a reason, and there is no better place to be than right here, right now. We will take responsibility for our actions.

The above are just examples use them only as a guide, write the statement into your own words, add pictures, create the statement in any form you wish. THEN SIGN IT!

Why There Has Been a Massive Growth in Golfing Holidays

With people getting longer leisure time and the advent of cheap air fares there has been a massive increase in the number of people going on sporting holidays. One sport that is experiencing a major boom is the sport of golf.

In the past golf has been restricted to the amount of time that you play by the climate and weather of the area that you live in. This is now no longer the case due to people now having the time and also being able to afford to fly to an area where the weather is suitable to play golf.

When thinking about booking a golfing holiday it is critical that you weigh up all of the options before you book. The first thing to do is to set yourself a budget; this has to cover the cost of the flight, accommodation, food and golf fees.

The most popular golfing holiday destinations are now in Spain, Portugal and Florida. Many Europeans take short golfing breaks to Spain and Portugal and stay in holiday villas as they are just a short plane trip away and there are many cheap no thrills flights to these destinations.

It is advisable to book your accommodation and tee times before going, as due to the increase in demand the days of simply turning up and securing accommodation have long gone.

Many courses now insist that players are of a certain standard and insist that proof of handicap is provided before they let you play.

Florida is now one of the most popular golf destinations in the world and has a tremendous selection of golf courses to choose from. You also have the added bonus of plenty of holiday villas in the area enabling you to choose accommodation to suite whatever your budget is.

An up and coming golf venue is Dubai, but this is a lot more expensive for both accommodation and actually booking a tee time can be quite hard and very expensive.

It is quite ironic that while thousands of Europeans are flying over to Florida for the sun and beautifully manicured golf courses, there are many Americans flying to Scotland to play on their famous cold windswept courses.

The one thing that all of these people have in common is their love for golf. Golfers are now in the fortunate position that no matter what their budgets are, there seems to be accommodation and golf courses available for them to play in.

Florida is now experiencing the creation of exclusive golf communities with golf course designed and built by past players. Typically they have villas built around the course with great eating facilities and swimming pools. Many of these courses are private members courses but in some cases it is possible to rent the holiday villas from the owners and as a result get access to the course.

Many of these new luxury golf developments now have golf schools attached and are geared up for whole families. As a result we are now seeing whole families going on golfing vacations together. This has stimulated a demand for golf from a whole new generation of young golfers and the day of the golf course being male dominated are quickly disappearing.

It can now be seen that there are golfing vacations available for all age ranges at all price brackets and we can expect this sector of the travel industry to continue to grow and prosper.

Cheap Package Holiday Deals: Weighing Up The Pros And Cons

Package Holidays: What's in the Box?

What are package holidays and are they for everyone? The short answer is of course no. There are roughly speaking two different types of travelers; those who prefer the independence of the non-package holiday and those who prefer the convenience of having everything organised for them. For families in particular the package holiday has some distinct advantages over the non-packaged.

Value at a Price

All-inclusive package holidays usually include flights, accommodation, meals and even selected drinks. The package often comes with a full itinerary of events, days out, activities and if you are lucky there may be some childcare thrown in too. This is perhaps the biggest appeal as trying to keep the kids entertained as well as finding time to relax can put a strain on any parent. If you want to eat 'out' there is nothing to stop you although you will have to pay for any extra-curricular activities and restaurants yourself. The all-inclusive package allows absolute control over spending so it continues to be a great option for those on a tight budget.

Quality or Quantity

The biggest downside to the all-inclusive holiday is that it's usually a mass produced product. Mass produced doesn't always mean quality and in fact it can mean quite the opposite. The main reason that packages are so cheap is that most of the elements (including tightly scheduled trips) are produced at a low cost and sadly it sometimes shows. While convenience and price are attractive, the true cost is sometimes quality.

How Flexible?

Package tours and trips are flexible these days and usually include plenty of free time. This makes them great for families as you get to go to interesting places, meet new people but still have time to do things for yourself. The downside is that you don't get as much flexibility and if you don't get on well with the group it can be a real headache; especially if the itinerary is challenging and the food is awful. What's more you've paid up front and won't be refunded for any missed trips, events or poor quality meals.

Alternative Offers

It's probably the value for money aspect that appeals to most people and it's true that for many families it's a seriously viable option. One must choose wisely though; find holidays that include activities you're likely to enjoy and avoid those with very crammed itineraries. The price may seem cheap but check out alternatives as you may well find incredible discounts such as 'Kids Go Free' that will offer you the same great value but much more freedom.

Business Thank You Etiquette

Business etiquette is a very important factor in business today. The following suggestions may help you when acknowledging a compliment or a gift, or when you are extending a thank you to someone for a job well done.

Saying "please" and "thank you" are not empty gestures. When you say "thank you," you are showing appreciation and displaying confidence.

Receiving compliments graciously should not be hard to do. The trick is to simply say, "thank you" to the colleague, supervisor or client who has complimented you on a job well done.

How do you say thank you after a business breakfast, lunch or dinner? Of course, give an immediate verbal thank you to your host, and then follow up with a note of thanks. Even if you communicate frequently by email a quick, hand-written note is a much more personal and much under used method of conveying extra thanks.

If a co-worker or business associate refers a client to you, thank them for their assistance. A short note will let them know how much you appreciate their collegiality. And they are more likely to refer to you again.

If you have pulled a meeting together with speakers or special guests, make sure to write a thank you to each immediately after the event. Keep a small supply of thank you cards in your desk drawer to make this kind of follow-up quick and easy. There are many events in the corporate world for which gifts are a necessity. When a company shows its appreciation for employees, clients, suppliers, and any other group of people who help to make them the success they are....

What Are Gifts and Incentives?

It's very important to realize that corporate gifts are not promotional items. Gifts and incentives are totally different from promotional items given out at trade shows.
Corporate gifts are given to clients with whom you have an ongoing working relationship. They can also be given to your employees to recognize outstanding performance or for personal achievements such as a promotion or birthday.

Please note that sales incentives also differ from gifts. They recognize employees who reach certain goals and employees work to achieve these goals in order to get the incentive. Incentives range in value and type but are usually more extravagant than corporate gifts.

When To Buy For Clients

We usually think of the holiday season as the time when businesses give corporate gifts to their clients. So why don't you make yourself stand out from the crowd by giving gifts in the off season. There's no gift giving protocol that requires you to send gifts only in the holiday season.

For example, think about giving a gift to celebrate the completion of a big project you've worked on with your client. Or how about recognizing a special event? Did your client just open a new office? Gifts are a great way to say "congratulations."

While there are many appropriate times to give gifts - there are also times when you absolutely should NOT give a gift. For example, giving a gift during a bidding process could be seen as bribery.

When To Buy For Employees As with clients, holidays are a popular time to buy for employees. It's a good way to say "thanks for a great year" and the best time to give an annual bonus.

You can also recognize personal achievements, like birthdays, promotions, and the birth of a child with gifts. Small gifts are appropriate and always appreciated.

When considering incentives there are many choices. We often consider sales incentives, but you may also want to consider rewarding a marketing team who creates a great campaign or technical team who works over to get you up and running ahead of schedule. Consider gifts like fruit of the month clubs

Gifts For Clients

After you decide when to give, the question now is what to give. And here you have so many options.

Food gift baskets are a very popular and cost-effective choice. Gourmet gift baskets are sure to please everyone and you can choose from gift baskets ranging in price from $ 20.00 to over $ 100.00 . Popular non-food gifts that are also fairly inexpensive include flowers, and office items.

Whatever you give, if possible try to make it relevant to your client. Think back to your conversations with your client. Did they mention a special hobby or interest? If the gift coincides with a hobby, the gift will be even more appreciated.

For example, if your client mentioned they love fishing, a simple book on fishing would be perfect.

Then make it even more personal by adding their name and a short thank you on the inside cover.

I personally don't suggest charitable donations ... some clients could find this offensive

Gifts For Employees

Plaques and trophies are always a great way to recognize a special achievement your employee makes. They're personal and can be displayed wherever the employee chooses.

Bonuses are a good idea for employees. The idea may seem impersonal, but you can be sure money will be well received. It can be given as a year-end gift, or as an incentive.

Of course, an incentive doesn't have to be money; it can be a holiday, or even a car. Remember that the bigger the incentive, the harder your employees will work for it.

Gift Etiquette

The most important rule, with both employees and clients, is to not offend! And that doesn't just mean not giving a gourmet gift basket with pork to your Jewish client. There are many other ways to offend that you really should make sure to avoid.

Find out if your clients company has a gift giving policy. This is very easy to do by calling the business and ask the receptionist or HR department. Do you know if your own company has a policy, you should also check it out before choosing a gift for your employees or workmates.

Very extravagant corporate gifts (not incentives) are considered inappropriate in most cases. Not only can they appear as bribery with clients, they can make the recipient feel uncomfortable (especially if they want to return a gift).

If you would like to deliver the gift in person this is fine but it is a good idea not to wait around while they open it. If you've sent the gift through the mail, don't ask the recipient if they've received it. The best idea is to call the vendor.

How Much Should You Pay?

You needn't spend a lot to make a good impression with your clients or employees.

It's very common for businesses to spend less than $50 total for each client gift. It's also a good idea to tailor each gift to specific clients ( if you can )- you may also want to spend more on clients that do more business with you.

Monetary gifts for employees are at your discretion and can be a set amount or a percentage of the employee's salary.

If you're a small business and considering an incentive program, big ticket items are out of the question. Instead, consider awarding day trips to somewhere close by like an amusement park for the family, or leisure-oriented items such as theatre tickets, a day at a spa, or a night at a hotel.

Even if you are on a small budget, you can still give gifts and incentives. You just need to be creative. There may well be some creative and crafty people within your organization who will be happy to help you out with ideas or the actual gifts.

With all of the choices out there, gifts and incentives are within any budget. And just think -- gift-giving and incentive programs are not just a sign of generosity; they are a very important part of maintaining positive and healthy relationships with your clients and employees alike.

Las Vegas Fun Away From the Strip

Whether you're a local or a visitor, finding attractions and events in Las Vegas isn't difficult. This bustling city is full of sights to behold that aren't part of the madness on the strip. If you want to enjoy Las Vegas for what it has to offer beyond the tourist-trap that is the strip, you can enjoy a myriad of activities whether you're traveling alone or in a group. There's something for everyone in Sin City and if you're a local on staycation, you're sure to find something new in Las Vegas as well.

The Fremont Street Experience is located in downtown Las Vegas. It encompasses five blocks of the far west side of the city in an area known historically as "Glitter Gulch". The Fremont Street Experience, or FSE, is home to Las Vegas's rich history, including the city's first hotel and its first paved street. Visitors or locals looking for fun can walk the five block span of FSE and enjoy a wide range of shops, historical attractions and concessions. The Fremont Street Experience is also a hopping place for people looking to drink on a budget. It's not unheard of to be able to snag a beer for as low as a dollar while enjoying FSE.

If you're visiting during the holiday season and are looking for something free to do with your family, the Ethel M. Chocolate Factory is worth checking out while avoiding the crowds on the Las Vegas Strip. The Ethel M. Chocolate Factory is located about 10 miles from the Strip near Mountain Vista and Sunset, making it an ideal location for relaxing locals and people with families. The chocolate factory, which is a division of Mars, offers free tours of its grounds and gives away a fresh, free piece of chocolate to each guest. They also feature a botanical garden behind the factory for further awe and entertainment.

On Boulder Highway, about 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, is a skating rink that will take you back to the days of roller disco. In fact, Seth Green, the creator of Robot Chicken, held a Star Wars roller disco at this very skating rink in 2009. The Crystal Palace is a large, modest looking establishment, but once inside, all you'll want to do is boogie down and lose yourself in the music and lights whilst skating with friends and new acquaintances.

In conclusion, one could simply take a drive around the city while visiting or enjoying an off day as a local to find a plethora of attractions and activities to enjoy. The city of Las Vegas is a cornucopia of culture and action whether you're on the Strip or as far away from it as possible.

How to Forecast Future Trends - 6 Waves + 4 Steps

The "Big Picture"

To forecast future trends effectively, and with precision, you must step back to see the "big picture" of how current and upcoming trends might evolve over various time intervals, and then assess their trajectory, speed, and interaction.

Essentially, you compile a "jigsaw puzzle" of what the future will be like. You never have all the pieces, and they constantly change in shape, size, and color, thus reflecting the world in a state of flux. By looking for trend patterns, you can anticipate their magnitude - and thus "see" or envision their outcome with a high degree of accuracy. It is akin to very long-range weather forecasting, using satellite imagery to track the biggest trends.

Future trends emerge in two major, matrix-like dimensions:

*"6-WAVE": 6 layered waves of future trends, each wave overlapped by the next, as society develops and modernizes; and

*"4-STEP": 58-year mega-cycle of social, technical, economic, and political trends.

The resulting mega-cycling waves of future trends bring a "6-WAVE + 4-STEP" kaleidoscope of change - a giant multi-dimensional jigsaw puzzle. You then plot this satellite "map" of anticipated future trends across a 20-Year Timetable of 5-year intervals. It serves as a guide to decision-making and action - by individuals, societies, professions, organizations, industries, and governments.

"6-WAVE" Layers

In his book The Third Wave, futurist Alvin Toffler referred to the Agricultural Era and the Industrial Age as 1st-Wave Society and 2nd-Wave Society respectively. Third Wave Society is the post-Industrial period already well underway since about 1950 in the West.

Under-developed countries are stuck in a rut; bogged down as 1st-Wave agrarian societies, with people still living hand to mouth, working on a labor-intensive basis, just as people in Western countries did in their Agricultural Age. By contrast, rapidly-developing countries, such as China, are seeing a continual shift into the industrial and service sectors.

All economies modernize across this "1st-2nd-3rd Wave" path of development. Western nations have already moved beyond the 3rd-Wave, which is now so large that it employs about 85% of the North American work force. Indeed, Toffler's "Third Wave" must now itself be divided into four distinct waves, giving us 6 waves or economic layers in total:

1st Wave: Agriculture (and natural resources)

2nd Wave: Industry (manufacturing, transport)

3rd Wave: Services (financial, health, personal)

4th Wave: Information (knowledge, high-tech, bio-tech)

5th Wave: Leisure (entertainment, travel, tourism)
6th Wave: Outer Space.

These 6 waves exist simultaneously, though at any one time one wave predominates. The new waves pile on top of the old ones, building the economy higher. The old waves rarely disappear; the new waves complement them. For example, 2nd-wave machines also modernize 1st-wave agriculture. The 4th-Wave is not just spawning the digital economy; it is modernizing every sector - farm, factory, office, hospital, hotel, airline. The 4th-Wave is now the main employer in the West.

National fortunes vary, depending on the urge to change, the degree of innovation, and the political climate. In the future, the leading nations will be those with strong 4th- and 5th-Wave sectors. Indeed, countries such as China and India already have ambitious 6th-Wave space programs.

"4-STEP" Mega-Cycle

These 6 massive waves interact in a "4-STEP" long-wave cycle, about 58 years long. "4-STEP" stands for a Social, Technical, Economic, and Political sequence of change. The current long wave started around 1990. Within it are six 9.5-year midi-cycles, which is why the economy currently is slowing in 2008-9. The next 9.5-year cycle will peak in 2018-9, and so on, until the full long-wave culminates in a major slowdown around 2048.

STEP 1 - Social Motivation

Change is driven by human forces. As we progress through the "hierarchy of needs," we generate new ideas to sustain our progress. We apply these ideas to techno-innovation. Today, as the 4th Wave spreads globally, innovations spread like lightning, again changing needs and aspirations. Any society that fails to innovate will stay stuck in the old wave, often missing several long wave cycles.

STEP 2 - Techno-Innovation

New ideas spur research, pushing back the frontiers of science, and spawning still more future trends in technology. The more efficient and productive the new technology, the greater its economic and social benefit. The greatest techno-change in world history is the Internet Revolution, or what I call the Webolution, which is a huge wealth-creation phenomenon.

STEP 3 - Eco-Modernization

The third step, therefore, is the effective management of technology to restructure and modernize the economy - to orchestrate the production of worldwide wealth. The Webolution is creating massive productivity gains, which always lead to real increases in wealth.

STEP 4 - Political Reform

Finally, to ensure that people benefit from this new wave of modernization, the entire 4-STEP cycle must be elevated to a higher level, so that people are incentivized to start the process all over again. To allow this, political systems inevitably will reform - preferably by consensus, but by upheaval if necessary. Otherwise, corrupt regimes and despots garner all the gains. Bureaucracy and entrenched power bases arise. Thus disenfranchised and disenchanted, people lose all incentive to innovate. Eventually, however, trends will overwhelm the system's resistance to change. It will reform or be overthrown.

In sum, the world is in constant transition, climbing 6 waves of modernization and crossing the 4-STEP cycle of change. This occurs in varying degrees and speeds, over different timeframes.

The task of the futurist is to identify, track, and forecast the next future, identifying threats and opportunities. Anyone who can "see" and "map" their future in this way, and takes the necessary steps to change, will grow and succeed in every way. Those who fail to "see" their future will simply end up in the wrong place.

England's Lake District

To tell you all that England's Lake District, lets call it the Lake District, has to offer would take volumes of books, such is the diversity and excitement of the area. Many famous writers have written about and within the area, for instance Wainwright, who wrote the famous tour and walking guides for the area, providing countless walkers and cyclists with the joys of his writing, Beatrix Potter, who lived for many years in the heart of the Lake District at Hill Top, near Ambleside, which is now owned by the National Trust. Beatrix is famous of course for the creation of the tales of Peter Rabbit and his friends.

The Lake District is in the extreme North West of England, bordering Scotland to the north, Lancashire to the south and the Irish Sea to the west. It sits within the County of Cumbria and is a designated National Park, one of the busiest and most popular in the UK.

Whilst the Lake District isn't widely know for it sunbathing weather, although if you are lucky to be there on a warm and balmy day, nothing beats it anywhere. the lakes wouldn't exist if it didn't get its fair share of rain. Or perhaps a little more than its fair share on occasion. It is this weather, the lakes, the many towns and villages and the wonderful mountains that make this place what it is and why it attracts so many people to sample its delights.

The Lake District in the spring and summer is glorious, but don't stay away from here in the middle of winter. The snow on the tops and often at lower levels provides unequalled scenery, straight from a Christmas card. Your time spent here in winter can be refreshing and invigorating and is not quite as busy at it some times throughout the year.

If you are looking to stay in one of beautiful towns, consider Keswick, nestling next to Derwentwater in the northern lakes, ideal for walking the northern hills such as Blencathra, or take a ferry around the lake giving a different perspective on the area. Or consider Ambleside in the southern lakes on the shores of England's biggest inland stretch of water, Lake Windermere. The western side of the lakes is less populated and provides a landscape in which you can lose yourself in, complete with England's highest peak, Scarfell Pike and deepest inland lake, Wast Water, a dark and imposing place, with screes tumbling steeply into the water all along its north western flank.

Getting to the Lake District is easy by car or train, to Windermere and the choices of accommodation vary from spending an exciting and adventurous night in a tent, up to a luxury night in a top class hotel overlooking a lake.

The difficult choices of where to stay, what to do and where to enjoy your food are there to be made. The services of an experienced and knowledgeable tour guide could be the answer to making your stay smooth, relaxed and unforgettable.

How to Make Fragrant Perfume Last and Linger

Leave the perfume bottle at home! Learn how to apply fragrance so it lasts longer. There are some things you can do to make your fragrance last all day. When, where and how you apply it makes all the difference. It is possible to make the scent of your perfume last without overpowering those around you. Actual perfume is concentrated and contains the most oil. It's the most expensive and will last the longest. Eau de parfum is less concentrated. Eau de cologne and toilette are weaker than either perfume or parfum.

Ensure that your body is thoroughly washed prior to applying perfume. Ensure that you have no open irritations or sores on your body before applying perfume; the combination of perfume and bodily fluids can combine to create unpleasant odors. For best results apply the perfume right after you've showered and your pores are still open. Layer the fragrance with soap, gel, shampoo or conditioner with the same scent. One reason why scents evaporate quickly is that perfume is easily absorbed into dry skin, so it's best to apply moisturizer beforehand (and allow it to be fully absorbed by your skin) - either unscented or the same scent as the perfume. Oils on the skin trap the fragrance and make it last longer. Layering the scent will help it last, but if this is not in your budget, use unscented products or make your own. Create a custom lotion by adding several drops of your perfume to a fragrance-free lotion. To make body powder pour several drops of your perfume on a cotton ball and place the cotton ball in an airtight container of plain talcum powder.

The perfume smell is released by your body heat, so you want to apply it to the pulse points of the body. Pulse points are places on the body where the heart rate can be felt through blood vessels lying close to the skin: e.g. the temples; just below the ear lobes by the jawline (not behind the ear); the base of the throat; between the breasts (you can also wear a small cotton ball infused with perfume inside your bra); the wrists; inside the elbows; the back of the knees; and the ankles. Scent travels upward so these areas are very important. You can also apply the perfume to a scent locket or ring worn close to the skin. When you apply fragrance to your wrists do not rub together as it will break down the oil molecules that create the scent and will decrease the length of time your perfume lasts. Let the scent develop naturally with your body chemistry. Put a little Vaseline or JoJoba oil on your pulse points before you spray. The scent will adhere better.

Spray perfume before getting dressed or putting jewelry on. Perfumes will stain clothing and jewelry, especially pearls. Spray your hairbrush with fragrance and run it through your hair. Spray yourself from 12" and then walk through the fragrant cloud to distribute the scent over your entire body.

Citrus and floral-based fragrances disappear faster - some after ten minutes -- while woodsy-based fragrances (cedar, pine and musk) tend to last longer because these oils evaporate slower. The scent of perfume and parfum can last up to eight hours. The scent of eau de toilette and eau de cologne can wear off after two to four hours. A fragrance's composition, your skin type and sunlight all play a role in how long a perfume lasts. Fragrance will fade faster in cooler climates and higher altitudes, and will last longer in warmer ones.

Preserve the potency of your fragrances by storing them in cool, dark places away from direct sunlight. Perfumes made with a high concentration of essential oils last longer than perfumes diluted with ethyl alcohol, water or other substances. It is estimated that the shelf life of a perfume is about three to five years depending on its ingredients and storage. Extreme light or heat changes the perfume's composition. It is best stored in its original box. A dark or opaque bottle will keep the scent longer than a clear one. Cap the bottle tightly to avoid evaporation.

Recreation - A Form of Relaxation

The modern world has started to give due status to the importance of 'recreation' in one's life, thanks to the modern psychologists and management pundits and there is a common awareness among the general population regarding the subject. There is nothing wrong in assuming that the primitive man might also have given a good position for 'recreation', even in the early ages of civilization. The various rituals and festivals, spread around the whole world, give us an idea of the importance with which the old societies also considered the importance of 'recreation'. If you go deep into the subject of 'recreation', you will reach those primitive ages when the social structure was controlled by a few and all others were 'slaves'. It was during that period we saw the 'gladiators' and the immortal 'Spartacus'. The fighting between the various 'gladiators' were done as a 'recreation' for the dominating class!

One of the giant figures of America's political arena, 'Thomas Jefferson' had once commented like this. "Leave all the afternoon for exercise and recreation, which are as necessary as reading. I will rather say more necessary because health is worth more than learning". This golden piece of sentence can be quoted anywhere as a good example for the illustration of the importance of recreation. It should be noted that always 'health' is 'wealth' and for maintaining a sound health to the mind and body, proper 'recreation' is necessary.

Recreation can be interpreted as the proper usage and utilization of 'time', in a creative manner, by which the entire process becomes good for the mind and the body. In other words recreation is the process of converting the 'leisure time', into a more 'productive' manner. With the advancement and modernisation of the society, the need for 'recreation' has become a very important one which should not be neglected. The general way of life, especially in the wealthier countries has become very much 'inactive' and 'lazy'. There arises the need and scope of proper 'recreation'. Even in the developing countries, the general population especially the new generations is tempted to have a lazy or sedentary way of life. The total social advancements all around the world lead them to that kind of a life.

Along with the lazy and inactive ways of life styles, there arise so many health problems and here proper 'recreation' will do wonders! But one should take care to limit the 'recreation' within one's own 'need' and 'capacity'. Excessive kinds of 'recreation' will again lead to a indisciplined way of life and it should be avoided. If taken in a correct dosage, 'recreation' will ease out the mounting pressures and tensions which creep into our inner self because of the modern way of living. Proper usage of 'recreation' increases the 'quality' of life. In the modern management techniques, especially in the 'stress management' field, the need for good 'recreation' is given real importance. There are many kinds of 'recreations' available, starting from the very many games and sports, traveling, music, theater, arts etc. If you prepare a list it will become really lengthy! Holidaying is another modern form of recreation, which has picked up momentum in the recent decades. One has to choose his own way of 'recreation', according to his own physical, mental and of course financial capacities. The Lure of Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond may have been immortalised in song, but it is also the largest freshwater lake in Britain (by surface area) and a popular tourist destination. It occupies a surface area of 71 square kilometres between the Western Lowlands and the Southern Highlands. It is 39 kilometres long and between 1.2 and 8 kilometres wide. You will find the loch in the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, in the council areas of Stirling, Argyll and Bute, and West Dumbartonshire. It southern shores lie 23 kilometres north of Glasgow, making it a perfect day trip location for anyone visiting the country's largest city.

Its eastern shores are dominated by the impressive Ben Lomond, a 974 metre peak of the Munro Mountains. A 2005 poll named Loch Lomond as the 6th greatest natural wonder of Great Britain. The only drawback with this beauty is that the A82 road, which runs the length of the western shore, is often choked with tourists during the summer months.

Around 60 islands dot the surface of the loch, the largest being Inchmurrin, which is also the largest island in loch or lake in the British Isles. Several of the islands are 'Cranmogs', artificially created and dating back to prehistoric times. English travel writer H.V. Morton wrote, 'What a large part of Loch Lomond's beauty is due to its islands, those beautiful green tangled islands, that lie like jewels upon its surface'. Strangely, one of the islands, Inchconnachan, is home to a colony of Wallabies.

In 2002, the 'Loch Lomond Shores' leisure and shopping complex opened, providing a home for major retailers, and the Drumkinnon Tower building has been redeployed as an aquarium. Large events are advertised on the Loch Lomond Shores website, but on a lesser scale, there is a popular Farmers' Market every second Sunday on the promenade. If it's Golf you're looking for, what better place to tee off from, than the Loch Lomond Golf Club, which lies on the south western shore. This club has hosted major tournaments, including the Scottish Open. The Carrick Golf Club is situated adjacent to the Loch Lomond club. A 28 kilometre cycle track runs from Arrochar and Tarbet railway station at the north end of the loch, to Balloch railway station in the south. On the eastern bank, you'll find the West Highland Way. The National Park Authority are trying to achieve a balance between tourists and loch users, and have imposed a 10 kph speed limit in environmentally sensitive areas.

As you would expect, the dramatic scenery draws boating and water sports enthusiasts from far and wide. All types of craft can be found on the loch, including canoes, wind-surfers, speedboats, and jetskis. The Loch Lomond Rescue Boat is on call 24 hours a day. A cruise can be taken from the town of Balloch. The last paddle steamer to be built in Britain, The Maid of the Loch, has been restored and is open to the public as a restaurant and bar, providing a totally unique venue for events and functions. She is open every day 11am - 4pm Easter to October; and on Saturdays and Sundays during winter. There is plenty of car parking adjacent, but limited access for the less able bodied. Admission is free.

It's difficult to mention Loch Lomond without bringing to mind the well known song that bears the same name. The chorus is;

Oh, ye'll tak' the high road, and I'll tak' the low road,
And I'll be in Scotland afore ye;
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond.

The song, first published around 1841 has unclear origins. It is believed that the author may have been a Scottish soldier who penned the lyric in a letter home, as he awaited death in enemy captivity. Another theory is that a soldier on his way home wrote the song, the low road being a reference to the Celtic belief that after death, the soul would be transported away by fairies. Whatever the truth, we remain thankful for the song that compliments Scotch whisky so well. In 1957, to some people's dismay, Bill Haley recorded a popular rock and roll version of the song which carried the title 'Rock Lomond'.

Important Measures To Take While Purchasing A Property

With the increase in population, demand for a space to reside is major concern these days. Also many customers would like to buy a property for investment purpose which gives good returns after a span of time. Purchasing a house involves a lot of wealth so one should be very careful and selective while putting such a good amount of money.

Here, we would discuss certain guidelines, which will help you in deciding for a house to purchase -

The first thing you should keep in mind is that the house you have decided to purchase should be worth your money as far as quality is considered. It should definitely have the essential factors like round the clock water supply, proper electricity back up, elevator if you have decided to stay any floor above the ground level. The apartment should be near to markets wherein groceries and daily needs are easily available. It should be properly connected to public transport depots like buses, railways and airports. Most importantly it should be close to hospitals and educational institutions. Also if you could choose a house nearer to your workplace, it can be an added advantage as it will not only save travelling but time as well. We understand all the above criteria become difficult to be fulfilled at one go but a little consideration would be effective.

The next important point is that your family and children should feel safe at home. The area should have a strong security record. Also the apartment should be protected round the clock by experienced security guard. No trespassing should be entertained. Entry and exit of strangers should be carefully noticed with their details recorded. Safety is the biggest concern. This should be very cautiously looked upon and no compromise will suit this need.

Also, a proper society gives you mental satisfaction to stay in the flat you chose. You should have good neighbors to mix with whom you can share good times, help in need. It's very true that you should not be in a society which is above your present standard; this will lead to many side effects to adjust. The same does happen if the society standard is low than you expected. In both the cases, mental peace is deprived. A good healthy staying is the most important part of life.

The next you should check while choosing a flat, is the progress perspective of that area. If the area is highly developing then it will increase the market value of your house. Sometimes your work demands you to relocate elsewhere. In that case if you decide on selling the flat, it will give you high returns.

And finally home should be well within your budget. If you take a loan where you have to pay in EMIs, then make sure the monthly payments should be affordable and you don't need to compromise on other essential things of life to a high extent.

Automobile World

An automobile or Car is a wheeled vehicle used for conveying or transporting passengers, goods, valuables and so on. Automobiles are primary designed to run on roads, have seats that varies but all has a driver seat, which is one of the constant factors in all vehicles. It also has four wheels. Automobile was derived from Greek word by combining 'auto' meaning self and mobilis meaning a vehicle that moves itself and on its own. The substitute which is 'Car' was originated from the Latin word 'carrus' or 'carrum' meaning wheeled vehicle.

I know what must be running through your mind is who started this invention, automobiles has so many inventors. Although Nicolas Joseph Cugnot is often credited with building the first self propelled automobile in about 1979, though there was a little doubt by some. Among notable early inventors were Ferdinand Verbiest who built the first steam-powered vehicle around 1672, Richard Trevithick in 1801. Francois Isaac de Rivaz, a Swiss inventor, designed the first internal combustion engine in 1806, which was fueled by a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen and used it to develop the world's first vehicle. All this and more had their contribution to the automobile world but Karl Benz generally is acknowledged as the Father of the modern automobile.

An automobile powered by his own four-stroke cycle gasoline engine was built in Mannheim, Germany by Karl Benz in 1885 and granted a patent in January of the following year under the auspices of his major company, Benz & Cie, which was founded in 1883. It was an integral design, without the adaptation of other existing components and including several new technological elements to create a new concept. This is what made it worthy of a patent. Then he was on his way to success in the automobile industry, He began to sell his production vehicles in 1888. In 1879 Benz created his first engine and got a patent for it and his first Motorwagon was built in 1885. During the last years of the nineteenth century, Benz was the largest automobile company. Then came DMG, a Daimler Motor company in Cannstatt founded by Daimler and Maybach in 1890 and under the brand name, DMG sold their first automobile in 1892.

By this time, the tentacles of automobile is spreading fast. So in 1890, Emile Levassor and Armand Peugeot of France began producing vehicles with Daimler engines and so laid the foundation of the automobile industry in France. The first design for an American automobile with a gasoline internal combustion engine was drawn in 1877 by George Selden of Rochester, who applied for a patent for an automobile in 1879, but the patent application expired because the vehicle was never built and proved to work which was a requirement for a patent. Though was later given the patent after delay of sixteen years for a two-stroke automobile engine on November 5 1895, which was was later challenged by Henry Ford and others, and was overturned in 1911. The first production vehicles in Great Britain also came from the Daimler Motor Company.

Now it came to the issue of production. The large scale production of affordable automobiles started with Ransom olds but was greatly expanded by Henry ford. As a result, ford's cars came off the line in fifteen minute intervals, much faster than previous methods. It was so successful and he dominated and spread worldwide seeing the founding of ford in other countries.
Since the 1920s, nearly all cars have been mass-produced to meet market needs, so marketing plans often have heavily influenced automobile design. The Fuel and propulsion technologies of Most automobiles in use today are propelled by gasoline (also known as petrol) or diesel for internal combustion engines, which are known to cause air pollution and are also blamed for contributing to climate change. The main benefit of diesel engines is a 50% fuel burn efficiency compared with 27% in the best gasoline engines. A down-side of the diesel is the presence in the exhaust gases. Gasoline engines have the advantage over diesel in being lighter and able to work at higher rotational speeds and they are the usual choice for fitting in high- performance sports cars. Continuous development of gasoline engines for over a hundred years has produced improvements in efficiency and reduced pollution.

Due to the pollution and climate change caused by gasoline and diesel, Efforts were made to improve or replace existing technologies which resulted into the development of hybrid, electric and hydrogen vehicles which do not release pollution into the air.

Other propulsion technologies used were steam power, usually an oil or gas-heated boiler but had a disadvantage of being unable to power the car until boiler pressure were available that is poor heat efficiency and has an advantage of producing low emissions. Some cars now are electric powered like the 2007 Tesla electric powered roadster. One of the latest in the world of automobile is the use of air as a fuel or propulsion technology. A car will be powered by compressed air. The car can be powered solely by air, or by air combined with gasoline/diesel/ethanol or electric plant. Several prototypes are available already and scheduled for worldwide sale by the end of 2008. Companies releasing this type of car include Tata Motors and Motor Development International. With the spate of technology coming on now and the need to evaluate any fuel or propulsion problem, One day cars might run on water.

The cost and benefits of usage can not be over emphasized which may include the cost of acquiring the vehicle, maintenance, fuel, taxes, insurance and so on are weighed against the cost of the alternatives, and the value of the benefits. Do you think all this cost really weighed the car usage. The ability for humans to move flexibly from place to place has far reaching implications for the nature of societies. Similarly the its effect on society which may include those of maintaining roads, pollution, public health, health care, can be equaled against the value of the benefits to society that automobile use generates. The societal benefits may include: economy benefits, such as job and wealth creation of automobile production and maintenance, transportation provision, society well-being derived from leisure and travel opportunities, and revenue generation from the tax opportunities.

As you can see, automobile industry is one of the best thing to have happened in this world and thanks to some of our inventors. Now we have so many automobile producers like Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Lincoln, Infinty to name a few. Now we have a wide variety of options to choose from because now we have so many models, so many styles and shapes to choose from.

Becoming Debt Free in a Debt Driven World

Recently, there has been a lot of news about the US fiscal cliff and how Congress needs to raise the debt ceiling to avoid falling off. If we did this in our households, in a short period of time, we would be in bankruptcy. It doesn't make any sense to have 535 educated individuals making decisions for 315 million Americans if they can't even balance their own checkbook. All of these individuals are highly educated and yet can't seem to figure out that the US has a spending problem, not a debt problem. Now, the US debt has reached 107% of its GDP and is quickly closing in on a Greece style of bankruptcy. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the direction this country is going in is now heading full-steam ahead.

Just because the government is borrowing itself into oblivion, doesn't mean that we as consumers need to follow suit. When I was a kid, I remember my parents and grandparents priding themselves about living a debt free lifestyle. People didn't fly to Hawaii and put it on their charge card and pay for it later. If someone wanted to go on vacation, they would save until they had enough money to travel. There used to be a phrase when someone went to Europe or Hawaii and it was a "vacation of a lifetime". Today, people take their families on extravagant vacations by using their charge card and paying for it later. The problem is this debt is compounding itself as people borrow more to consolidate bills. Prior to the financial crisis in 2007, the real estate bubble drove the credit markets as many Americans borrowed out all the equity of their homes to spend frivolously. These fools were spending like drunken sailors with this newfound wealth thinking it would never come to an end. I heard many young couples stating that if they got into trouble, they would sell their property at a profit and buy something cheaper. By now everyone knows what happened and how it didn't work out according to these folks plans. Incidentally, most of these people lost their homes to foreclosure and ended up filing bankruptcy.

Americans need to learn from their mistakes and get back to living the debt-free lifestyle of our parents and grandparents. Nothing's wrong with making mistakes as long as we can learn from them. That's why it's so important for our elected officials to always look at history to avoid making the same mistakes that other countries made in the past. For those that are now buried under piles of credit card debt, there is still hope with filing for bankruptcy. Filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy will wipe out those past credit card debts and give the person a chance to start over being virtually debt-free. Sometimes in this world it's next to impossible to be completely debt-free because of necessities of life that it makes more sense to buy on credit like a mortgage. Where individuals need to be careful is overextending themselves and living beyond their means. After filing for bankruptcy, a person should budget themselves to avoid making the same mistakes they made in the past. A bankruptcy attorney will usually advise their clients to take their time signing up for any new credit after the discharge. While no one really wants to file bankruptcy, sometimes it is in their best interest to put aside their pride and move forward with the bankruptcy filing to get that fresh start.
